Throughout the course of planning your wedding, you spend a lot of time with your maid or matron of honor. You need someone you can rely on for the organizational and emotional support, someone who will be there when you need her. For these reasons, many brides choose their sisters, relatives or best friend. But if your best friend or sister just had a baby or engaged with another urgent commitment, she may not be able to fulfill the role.
As you begin to consider someone for this important position, ask yourself the following questions:
1. Will this person be able to attend the wedding?
2. Can I count on her to answer the phone when I call and help calm me down when things get overwhelming?
3. Will she be able to handle tasks assigned to her?
4. Will she be able to put away her comfort to ensure I am comfortable on the wedding day?
5. Will I be her No 1 priority on the wedding day and the days leading up to the wedding.
If you plan to have a large wedding or a destination wedding, or you can’t bear to choose between sisters or best friends, it’s perfectly acceptable to have two maids of honor or a maid of honor and a matron of honor. Keep in mind that you need to be specific about the duties of each honored attendant so you can avoid misunderstandings.
